LG G5 のボディにプラスチック素材が使用されていることが判明し、ネット上では「発表とは違うじゃないか」といった批判が出ている中、LG の幹部がこのことについての見解を表明しました。

LG は G5 のボディを「ALL NEW METAL DESIGN」としているので、HTC One や Xperia Z シリーズのように削り出しのアルミ素材を使用していると予想している人が多かったと思います。しかし、実際にはプラスチック素材の芯に金属素材のメッキ処理を施した構造だったことが判明し、予想とは異なるものだったので話題となっています。

このことについて LG のシニアディレクター Ken Hong 氏は自身の Google+ ページを通じて、G5 のボディに韓国生産技術研究院（Korea Institute of Industrial Technology）が開発した LM201b と呼ばれる製造法が使用されたことを明らかにしました。

これはアルミニウム合金を使用したダイキャスト成形法の一種らしく、自動車や航空機のボディにも使用されているそうです。LM201b はアルミニウム合金でコーティングしたものになりますが、同氏は LG G5 がメタルボディではないとするならば、自動車や航空機もメタルボディではなくなるとして、「ALL METAL」という表現が間違いだという指摘を適切ではないとしています。
