流出したPlayストアアプリで新聞・雑誌の定期購読サービス「Google Play Newsstand」の存在が確認される、10月24日のGoogle Play関連イベントで発表？
Googleが「Google Play Newsstand」と呼ばれる新聞や雑誌の定期購読サービスをGoogle Playの中で提供しようとしている模様です。
Android Policeが先日流出したGoogle Playストアアプリ（v4.4）を分解したところによると、流出アプリの内部に「Google Play Newsstand」という名前、次のような機能に関する説明文やコードが確認されました。
Your favorite magazines and news are right here on Google Play. Pick up the latest issues or try out a free trial subscription. Read instantly with the Play Newsstand app, even offline.”
今年3月にWEB版Google Playストアで「Google Play News」という未提供サービスのJavascriptファイルが発見されましたが、同サイトは、内容的にそれは今回の「Google Play Newsstand」に変わった可能性が高いと述べています。
「Google Play Newsstand」については、上記の文章やコードの内容から新聞や雑誌などの刊行物の定期購読サービスで、Android向けには「Play Newsstand」と呼ばれる専用アプリが存在します。そのアプリでは新聞だけではなく雑誌の定期購読にも対応していることから、現在米国で提供中の雑誌購読サービス「Google Play Magazine」は「Google Play Newsstand」に統合される可能性が高い。このほかにも「Google Play Newsstand」では刊行物の無料体験購読や「My Newsstand」と飛ばれるAndroidアプリの「My Apps」のような管理機能も備えています。
Googleは10月24日にニューヨークでGoogle Play関連のプレスカンファレンスを開催する予定です。その際、今回の「Google Play Newsstand」が発表されるかもしれません。
